Prostate cancer accounts for one in four cancers in British men, with around 47,000 new cases each year. There are many types of treatment available including active surveillance (when the doctor monitors for signs that the cancer is changing) after someone has been diagnosed with localised (non-spreading) prostate cancer.
FINESSE is trying to find out if a drug called finasteride can support men to continue with active surveillance after they have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. If this works, it will mean more people can avoid or delay the need for further treatments, and the side-effects that go with them.
